Yard and equipment: Sonamet’s fabrication yard is located next to the Lobito Port, one of the principal ports on the West African coast due to its length and depth. The yard fabricates a wide range of structures including piping for the regional oil and gas industry.
Training centre: The company also runs a training facility in line with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas’ drive to increase local content and improve skills. The centre contains welding and training facilities and three workshop areas covering more than 3,500 square metres. It includes 80 welding boxes and associated equipment.
Strengths: The company excels in shallow-water projects, including fabrication of jackets and topsides. Sonamet also boasts extensive experience in subsea production systems and SURF projects.
Mission: Sonamet aims to actively contribute to the transfer of technology in the Angolan energy industry, with a particular focus on Lobito and the Benguela region.
Current objectives: The local engineering company aims to take on SURF and subsea packages, tie-ins and tiebacks work and similar projects. The company is actively pursuing opportunities in the fabrication of civil structures, especially those that require steel.
