The Oil & Gas Year Mexico 2018 Strategic Roundtable

The event brought together Sergio Pimentel, the commissioner of the National Hydrocarbons Commission; Jordy Hernán Herrera Flores, independent adviser at the Mexican Petroleum Fund; Jesús Lamas, vice-president of Schlumberger in Mexico and Central America; Hermes Aguirre, Mexico vice-president of Halliburton; Ulises Hernández Romano, geologist at Pemex E&P; Luis Vielma Lobo, general director CBM Ingeniería Exploracíon y Producción; and Alfredo Alvarez, energy segment leader, Mexico and Central America for EY.

Ernesto Marcos, general director of Marcos y Asociados, and Benjamin Torres-Barron, energy, mining and infrastructure practice group leader at Baker McKenzie, moderated the panel discussion.

The event, titled “The liberalised sector in Mexico – path towards consolidation,” covered a number of themes including the transforming effect of regulations in creating an attractive investment environment in Mexico’s upstream sector; farm-outs, JVs and partnerships with Pemex for the development of a competitive and efficient national oil and gas industry; the future of Mexico’s natural gas production and supply under the country’s new energy reform measures; the emerging opportunities in Mexico’s midstream infrastructure to link upstream success with the downstream sector; and the role of local content across the Mexican oil and gas value chain.
