ADNOC green lights the Hail and Ghasha project

ADNOC has made its FID on the giant Hail and Ghasha gas field project in the UAE, the Emirati NOC announced on Thursday.

The company awarded two EPC contracts connected to the project.

The first is with a joint venture between National Petroleum Construction Company and Saipem to build offshore facilities including artificial islands and subsea pipelines. The contract is valued at around USD 8.2 billion.

The second is with Tecnimont for construction of onshore infrastructure including carbon dioxide and sulphur recovery and handling assets. The work is valued at around USD 8.74 billion.

The Hail and Ghasha project is set to produce 42.5 mcm (1.5 bcf) of gas per day before 2030.

The shallow-water fields are found within the Ghasha concession in water depths of less than 15 metres.

The play unofficially holds estimated resources of more than 142 bcm (5 tcf) of gas.

The development aims to operate with net-zero carbon emissions, with 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year captured and stored underground.

The project will also produce low-carbon hydrogen and source power from nuclear and renewable energy assets.

“The final investment decision for Hail and Ghasha is a major milestone for ADNOC and our strategic partners, and we are delighted to progress this pioneering project with net zero carbon dioxide emissions, significantly boosting ADNOC’s carbon capture capacity as we work toward a lower carbon future.” Said Abdulmunim Al Kindy, executive director for upstream operations of ADNOC.

ADNOC recently doubled its carbon capture target to 10 million tonnes per year by 2030.
