Baker Hughes to supply electric technology to Canada’s Cedar LNG

Canada
Baker Hughes will supply a range of electric-driven liquefaction technologies to the USD 4-billion Cedar floating LNG project in Canada’s British Columbia, the US company announced on Friday.

For the project, Baker Hughes will supply Black & Veatch with turbomachinery equipment consisting of four electric-driven main refrigeration compressors, two electric-driven boil-off gas compressors and six centrifugal pumps.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.

On Thursday, Cedar LNG announced that following the finalisation of long-term commercial offtake agreements, it had issued notices to proceed to the project’s EPC contractors.

Cedar LNG is a partnership between the Haisla First Nation and Canada’s Pembina Pipeline Corporation to develop a floating LNG facility in Kitimat on British Columbia’s Pacific coast, an area considered strategic for Canada’s LNG exports. Project developers bill the facility, powered by renewable energy, as one of the world’s lowest-carbon-intensity LNG plants.

Designed to limit environmental impact, the project’s floating plant will be situated on a deepwater marine inlet with optimal shipping conditions.
