Bashneft fire kills eight

A fire at the Ufaneftekhim refinery in Ufa has cost the lives of at least eight people, Russian news agencies, citing information from the country’s Investigative Committee, reported over the weekend.

The fire at Bashneft’s hydrocracker unit was brought under control in a matter of three hours. Three people were found dead at the scene. Another two succumbed to their wounds, mostly severe burns, on the way to hospital. Recovery teams later discovered another three bodies in the debris.

Russia’s Investigative Committee, known as Sledkom, is the entity responsible for federal investigations. Its enquiry was launched on the suspicion of breaches of safety protocols.
