BP will now rollout the technology, which it says could result in savings of USD 200 million per year, across its production operations. It is the first development to come out of a pilot programme GE initiated with BP in January. That month, GE’s launched its Oil & Gas Digital Solutions business. Based on the GE Predix operating system, POA will “improve the integrity and performance of our assets around the globe,” BP’s head of upstream technology, Ahmed Hashmi, said.
GE President and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli said that the technology comes at a time of “digital transformation.” He also said that the merger with services giant Baker Hughes could take “Big Data into the olfields.”
