Brazil auctions power projects worth $1.55 bln

BRASíLIA, June 29, 2018 – Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) awarded 20 power projects worth BRL 6 billion (USD 1.55 billion) in a Thursday auction, local media reported.

The projects comprise 2,562 kilometres of transmission lines in 16 different states and a substation, ANEEL said in a statement. Each concession will have a 30-year term, and all projects are expected to be completed in 36 to 63 months.

The biggest winner was India’s Sterlite Power Grid, with six projects awarded. Nine projects were granted to consortiums, and the remaining five were won by individual bidders.

“The auction was extremely successful, with a clear demonstration of investor confidence in the Brazilian electricity sector,” ANEEL director André Pepitone da Nóbrega said.
