CGG starts 3D seismic study in Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire
CGG has begun a reimaging program of seismic data from Côte d’Ivoire’s offshore Tano Basin, the French geoscience company announced on Wednesday.

The work involves reimaging 6,400 square kilometres of 3D seismic data on a site located next to Eni’s Baleine field.

The study is expected to be complete by the end of 2024, with a fast-track volume available in Q1 2024.

“The recent discovery of the Baleine field has led to heightened exploration interest in offshore Côte d’Ivoire,” said Dechun Lin, executive vice-president of multi-client and new ventures of CGG.

“Our reimaging project is the first of its kind to utilise cutting-edge technology to enable confident evaluation at a prospect as well as regional level, to give a better picture of the subsurface in this world-class basin.”

Discovered in 2021, the Baleine field is the largest oil and gas find in the country with estimated resources of 2.5 billion barrels and 93.5 bmc (3.3 tcf) of associated gas.

The field extends over blocks CI-101 and CI-802, which Eni operates alongside its local partner Société Nationale d’Opérations Pétrolières de la Côte d’Ivoire.

In August 2023, Eni started up the first of three planned production phases on the play.
