Chevron producing from crossborder Lianzi field

Chevron subsidiary Chevron Overseas (Congo) has begun hydrocarbons production from the Lianzi field, located in a unitised offshore zone between the Republic of Congo and Angola.

The Lianzi field is located 105 kilometres offshore and in 900 metres of water. The project is the first crossborder oil development project offshore Central Africa, according to the super-major. It is also Chevron’s first operated asset in the Republic of Congo, with production scheduled at 40,000 barrels of oil per day.

Discovered in 2004, the field includes a subsea production system and a 43-kilometre electrically heated flowline system that transports the oil from the field to the Benguela Belize-Lobito Tomboco platform in Angola’s block 14. It incorporates a direct electrical heating system to ensure fluid flow, Chevron has said.

Chevron Overseas (Congo) operates the Lianzi Field with a 15.75-percent stake. Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, also a Chevron subsidiary, holds 15.5 percent, with Total E&P Congo assuming a 26.75-percent share. Angolan oil and gas companies Angola Block 14 and <a href=’https://theenergyyear.com/companies-institutions/sonangol/’>Sonangol P&P, along with Italy’s Eni, each hold 10 percent. Republic of Congo national oil company Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo assumes a 7.5-percent share, and Portugal’s Galp Energia holds 4.5 percent.
