China confirms massive gas deposits

China
Sinopec has discovered 133 bcm (4.7 tcf) of proven gas reserves in China’s southwestern Sichuan Basin, the E&P company announced on Wednesday.

China’s Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed the find at the Hexingchang field located between the Deyang and Mianyang municipalities in Sichuan province.

A total of 21 exploration wells were drilled to between 4,500 metres and 5,500 metres with an average of 155,000 cubic metres of output per day.

Annual gas production at the site is expected to reach 1.8 bcm.

The Hexingchang field holds deep and tight sandstone gas reservoirs.

Proven natural gas reserves in the Sichuan Basin have reached 3 tcm.
