Dos Santos fails to appear at Sonangol questioning

Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of former Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos and ex-head of Sonangol, failed to appear after a summons from state prosecutors, international media reported Tuesday.

Isabel dos Santos was expected to answer questions about her time at the helm of the NOC but is permitted to give reasons for not appearing up to three times.

“Ms. Isabel dos Santos was surprised when she was informed by the media that she had been notified to respond regarding her management at Sonangol,” her spokeswoman told Reuters.

Angolan President João Lourenço removed Isabel dos Santos from her post as head of Sonangol in November 2017. She had been appointed to the position by her father in June 2016, after the company’s board was sacked by presidential decree.
