East Kalimantan block bidding to open

Indonesian Deputy Energy Minister Arcandra Tahar has said bidding on an oil and gas PSC in East Kalimantan will begin as soon as possible, international media reported Friday.

The block is operated by Chevron, but the super major said last year it would not seek to renew its licence when it expires in October 2018. Pertamina will not take over the block, the deputy minister said.

Chevron owns operating interests in four offshore PSCs covering 11,100 square kilometres in the Kutei Basin. The company divides its business in the region into three main areas: North, South and West Seno.

In the North Area, Chevron operates Attaka, which is the largest offshore oilfield in Indonesia, and the Melahin, Kerindingan, Serang and Sapi fields, as well as the Santan Terminal.

In the southern area, Chevron runs the Sepinggan and Yakin fields as well as the Lawe-lawe terminal, Penajam supply base and the Pasir Ridge Balikpapan office.
