Ecopetrol strikes oil onshore Colombia

Ecopetrol has discovered substantial oil flows from an onshore well in the Putumayo province in Colombia, Reuters announced on Thursday.

Colombia’s majority state-owned E&P player drilled the Alqamari-2 exploration well to depths of 2,830 metres and saw flows of 1,800 bpd of light oil and 23,400 cubic metres (825,000 cubic feet) of associated gas per day.

The Alqamari-2 exploration well is located in the municipality of Orito in the Western Area Exploitation Agreement of which Ecopetrol holds a 100% stake.

Earlier in August, Ecopetrol announced second-quarter earnings of USD 1.02 billion, representing a 61% fall from the same quarter in 2022 largely due to lowered commodity prices.
