India’s IITs and ONGC to collaborate

India’s Institutes of Technologies (IITs) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) announced on Monday a joint research and development programme for the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons. The programme will be funded by the ONGC and rely on the expertise of ITTs and is part of a wider effort to increase co-operation between the industry and academia.

A Memorandum of Collaboration was signed between Smriti Irani, minster of human resource development (formerly Ministry of Education) and Dharmendra Pradha, minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, who praised the theoretical knowledge of the ITTs and the practical mindset of the ONGC and sees it as the pact’s biggest strength.
