Iran condensate refinery comes on line

Iran
Iran has launched the first phase of the Persian Gulf Star refinery, a mega-project designed to process condensate from the South Pars field.

The facility, expected to allow Iran to halt petrol imports, was inaugurated on Sunday in a ceremony attended by President Hassan Rouhani.

The USD 3.78-billion Persian Gulf Star refinery is designed to process 360,000 boepd of South Pars gas condensate. The facility will produce 36 million litres of Euro 4 petrol and 14 million litres of diesel per day, alongside LPG, jet fuel, hydrogen and granulated sulphur.

Beyond ending Iran’s petrol imports, the refinery is slated to generate 3 million-4 million litres per day of petrol for exports.

In related news, Hungarian integrated oil and gas company MOL has expressed an interest in participating in EOR and IOR projects in Iran, an Iranian official said last week in comments publicised on Saturday.

Deputy Petroleum Minister in International Affairs and Trading Amir Hossein Zamaninia said he and the Hungarian company’s upstream executive vice-president, Berislav Gaso, had also discussed collaboration on LNG, NGL and refinery projects.
