An initial rate of 15,000 bpd of the field’s oil will be trucked to Iran, destined for the Kermanshah Refinery, Reuters cited Iraqi officials and trading sources as saying. This figure is expected to grow to 60,000 bpd.
Iran is also targeting the construction of a 650,000-bpd pipeline to import oil from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, according to Hamid Hosseini, Iranian secretary-general of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce.
Talks on exporting Kurdistan Region oil to Iran began in October. SOMO, the trading arm of Iraq’s Ministry of Oil, will be responsible for the exports.
