A major offtaker of Iranian crude before the sanctions, the agreement aims to revitalise the relationship with Eni.
“The National Iranian Oil Company has sold one cargo of crude oil to this Italian company,” Mohsen Ghamsari, director for international affairs at NIOC, told Mehr news agency. He added that negotiations with Eni on a long-term oil sale contract were in progress. In the event of an understanding, the NIOC could sell 100.000 bpd of crude oil to Eni, Ghamsari said, adding that a separate crude sales agreement had been sealed with Italian refiner Saras.
