Maersk Drilling receives new North Sea contract
Denmark In an announcement on the drilling major’s website, CEO Claus V. Hemminsen said, “In order to navigate the low visibility in the current market, it is essential that we reduce our exposure by securing a solid contract backlog. Therefore, it is also rewarding to see that we secure employment for the Mærsk Giant, which otherwise would have been stacked.”
Maersk’s Giant is equipped to operate in a water depth of 110 metres and has 132-metre long legs. The rig, which has been built to carry out high-temperature and high-pressure drilling activity, is currently under contract in the North Sea with Canadian multinational Talisman Energy. With the two contracts back-to-back, the rig will be working until at least March 2016.
