Namibia: Sintana takes 67% in Giraffe, eyeing Orange Basin growth

Canadian exploration player Sintana Energy has expanded in Namibia’s Orange Basin with a deal to acquire up to 67% in Giraffe Energy Investments, Sintana announced on Wednesday.

Giraffe Energy holds 33% in PEL 79, which includes blocks 2815 and 2915, situated in proximity to areas operated by Shell, BW Energy and Rhino Resources.

The licence is operated by Namibian NOC NAMCOR with a 67% interest.

The deal allows Sintana to expand its exposure to the prolific Orange Basin, which has been home to numerous discoveries in the past several years.

Sintana highlighted its emerging partnership with Quantum Xploration (QXI), which positions it to “deepens its technical, operational and in-country capabilities in Namibia.” QXI head Mark Stearns previously served as asset general manager for Galp Energia in Namibia from 2017-2023.

Meanwhile, Giraffe Energy director Jeremy Hangula noted that Sintana and his company’s combined resources would put them in a stronger optician to “capture value” from the licence.
