Occidental hits high initial flows on Block 65 in Oman

Occidental Petroleum Corporation has yielded record initial production flows at an onshore exploration well on Block 65 in Oman, the US energy company announced on Thursday.

The completed near-field well delivered 6,000 boepd, the highest initial production test in Oman in the last decade.

The company is now on track to begin commercial production of the well, with the first sale expected in the coming month.

Occidental Petroleum Corporation’s Oxy Oman was awarded the concession in 2019.

The subsidiary made 12 new oil and gas discoveries in 2022, with the majority on Block 9 in which the company holds a majority stake. Additional finds were made on Block 27 and Block 53 in the same year.

Oxy Oman also recently completed 2D seismic processing of its wholly-owned and operated Block 72.

The company reported an average gross production of 220,000 boepd in 2022, including 201,000 boepd of fluids and 3.12 mcm (110 mcf) of gas.
