Pertamina hits gas offshore Indonesia

Pertamina’s upstream subsidiary Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) has announced a natural gas find estimated at 2.39 bcm (84 bcf) in the Abar block, local media reported Thursday.

Pertamina Hulu Energi has operated the West Java block since May 2015 with exploration commitments including an offshore 2D study and one exploration well.

“At the end of the fourth quarter of 2017, PHE Abar had drilled the Karunia 1-X exploration well and successfully discovered gas reserves totaling 84 bscf [2.39 bcm] in the sandstone reservoirs of the Cisubuh and Parigi formations, at a depth of 2,600 feet [793 metres],” PHE Abar general manager Theodorus Duma was quoted as saying by the Jakarta Post.

The company added that drilling the Karunia 1-X well cost 30% less than its original target.
