Porsche joins Chile hydrogen consortium
Chile The first phase of the Haru Oni project will see the construction of a 130,000-litre-per-year green fuel plant by 2022. Production is expected to be ramped up to 55 million litres per year by 2024 and 550 million litres per year by 2026.
The climate-neutral fuel will be developed using green hydrogen through wind energy that will produce synthetic methanol that is then converted into the new petrol.
Siemens Energy, ExxonMobil and Porsche are joining with energy firm AME, Chilean petroleum company ENAP and Italy’s Enel on the project.
The fuel will primarily be used to power the automobile company’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race cars.
