Premier Oil comes up dry in North Sea
Norway Premier drilled to a total depth of 3,464 metres targeting the Ula and Bryne formations. It missed the Ula formation, and while it found 110 metres of good quality reservoir sands in the Bryne formation, the sands were water wet. The well will be plugged and abandoned.
The Maersk Guardian was used to drill the well, and it will now be laid up in Fredrikshavn, Denmark. This was Premier Oil’s first exploration into the Mandal High play, where the Myrhauk well is located. Premier Oil owns a 40-percent stake of the operating licence, the rest of which is split between international upstream operators Suncor Energy, Deutsche Erdoel AG Norge, Dana Petroleum and Ithaca Petroleum.
