Saipem awarded EPCIC works worth $1 bln in Libya

Libya
Saipem has signed a EPCIC contract with Eni worth around USD 1 billion to revamp platforms and facilities on the offshore Bouri gasfield in Libya, the Italian engineering and construction company announced on Wednesday.

Scope of the project includes EPCIC of a gas recovery module with a capacity of around 5,000 tonnes that will be fixed onto the existing DP4 offshore facility and the laying of 28 kilometres of pipeline that will connect the DP3, DP4 and Sabratha platforms.

Major lifting operations will be performed by semi-submersible crane vessel Saipem 7000 in water depths of between 145 metres and 183 metres.

Works are part of the Bouri Gas Utilisation Project.

The Bouri field is located on Block NC-41, 120 kilometres from the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean Sea.

Timeline of the project was not disclosed.

Earlier in August 2023, Eni revoked force majeure status on onshore and offshore exploration blocks in Libya after nine years.

The energy giant’s production activities in Libya are carried out through Mellitah Oil and Gas, a 50:50 joint venture between Eni and Libya’s state-owned National Oil Company.

Eni produces around 80% of Libya’s gas output, which averaged 45.3 mcm (1.6 bcf) per day in 2022.
