Saipem moves ahead on ExxonMobil Guyana contract

Italian contractor Saipem has received authorisation from ExxonMobil Guyana to proceed with the execution of the Whiptail oilfield development project in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, Saipem announced on Saturday.

Saipem’s scope of work entails the detailed EPCI of a large subsea production facility, including the design, fabrication and installation of subsea structures, risers, flowlines and umbilicals. The contract is valued between USD 750 million-1.5 billion.

The company will deploy its FDS2, Castorone and Constellation vessels for the offshore installation. Part of the submarine items will be constructed at Saipem’s Guyana Offshore Construction Facility, located at the Port of Georgetown, and an additional local fabrication facility.

The announcement follows ExxonMobil’s March 12 FID on Whiptail. The USD 12.7-billion project is the company’s sixth on the Stabroek block and will include up to 10 drill centres with 48 production and injection wells. It is expected to add capacity of approximately 250,000 boepd by the end of 2027.

Saipem has five additional contracts from ExxonMobil Guyana in the region: Liza Phase 1 and Phase 2, Payara, Yellowtail and UARU.
