Samsung C&T wins $2-billion Qatar contract

Qatargas has awarded Samsung C&T a contract worth more than USD 2 billion for EPC works on North Field Expansion (NFE) LNG storage tanks and facilities.

Qatargas parent company QP confirmed the award to the South Korean player on Monday, saying it would cover the expansion of the LNG storage and loading facilities at the Ras Laffan Industrial City.

The scope includes three LNG tanks and three LNG loading berths for NFE, along with options for two LNG tanks and one LNG berth for the North Field South project, and all associated pipes, lines and loading lines.

Just a week ago, Italian EPC major Saipem said it had secured a contract worth USD 1.7 billion to provide EPCI for the giant NFE project.

That contract’s scope covers offshore gas production and transportation facilities including platforms, supporting and connecting structures, subsea cables and anticorrosion internally cladded pipelines, as well as the decommissioning of a pipeline and various other modifications.
