Seismic survey complete on Namibia’s Orange Basin

Searcher has completed its 3D seismic acquisition campaign of Namibia’s Orange Basin, Upstream Online reported on Wednesday.

The geoscience entity’s multi-phase campaign was completed alongside partners Shearwater and National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia and consisted of two separate phases.

The first phase involved conducting 1,700 square kilometres of 3D seismic works in the PEL 85 concession, with fast-tracked data showing promising results.

“We have been astonished by the quality of the phase one imaging even on the early data volumes allowing us to de-risk reservoir, source and multiple traps already,” said Neil Hodgson, Searcher’s vice-president of geoscience.

The second phase involved mobilising the Shearwater Empress seismic acquisition vessel to the PEL 3 block to acquire 5,000 square kilometres of 3D seismic data targeting the Kudu gasfield.

The survey was the largest multi-client 3D study performed on the Orange basin, with more than 6,700 square kilometres of seismic data acquired.

Full data sets are expected to be available by Q4 2023.
