Shell enters Qatar’s LNG expansion project

Shell has obtained shares in NOC QatarEnergy’s 16-million-tonnes-per-year North Field South LNG project, the American energy giant announced on Sunday.

The agreement will see Shell take 9.375% stake in the North Field South project.

Cost of the transaction was not disclosed.

QatarEnergy will retain 75% interest in the field, with 25% given to international partners.

In September, TotalEnergies was chosen to participate with a similar 9.375% share, with 6.25% still available for foreign participation.

The North Field South project encompasses two liquefaction trains with a capacity of 16 million tonnes per year.

The development is part of the larger North Field expansion project, including North Field South and North Field East. The entire project aims to produce 48 million tonnes per year of LNG by 2027.
