Spectrum shooting seismic offshore Argentina

UK seismic company Spectrum has begun to shoot a multi-client 2D seismic survey offshore Argentina, international media reported Tuesday.

The survey, to be performed together with partner BGP Marine, will cover about 14,500 kilometres in the country’s Austral and Malvinas basins. The data is expected to be used to attract participants in Argentina’s first-ever offshore bidding round, which will take place in mid-2018.

Spectrum will use a 12,000-metre streamer to gather data, which will be processed with pre-stack depth migration and pre-stack time migration methods, as well as broadband and full waveform products. The first packages of processed information are scheduled to be delivered in early Q2 2018.

“The strong support and interest Spectrum generated for the ongoing Argentine deepwater programme allowed us to continue to build on our Argentinian multi-year programme with the addition of the Austral Malvinas programme,” said Richie Miller, executive vice-president of Spectrum’s multi-client division in the Americas.

The UK company had previously been granted a permit by the Ministry of Energy and Mining to shoot 35,000 kilometres of 2D seismic over a 435,000-square-kilometre area offshore Argentina. The first deliveries for those data packages were made in Q4 2017.
