Statoil awards two jacket contracts

Statoil announced on Thursday that it handed out two steel jacket contracts to construction companies Kvaerner Verdal and Dragados Offshore for engineering, fabrication and construction works during the first phase of the Johan Sverdrup development. The development aims at tapping into the potential at the Johan Sverdrup field, located in the Norwegian Sea and 35 kilometres south of the Grane oilfield.

The first $121.7-million steel jacket will weigh an estimated 17,700 tonnes and will support the Johan Sverdurp processing platform. The jacket will first be constructed at the Verdal yard before being installed in the development during the summer of 2018.

Statoil gave the second contract to Dragados Offshore intended for the Johan Sverdrup utility and accommodation. Dragados will construct the 7,600-tonne steel jacket in the Cadiz yard before installation scheduled for 2018. The exact value for this jacket has not yet been disclosed

Both construction companies have experience working with Statoil. Statoil and Kvaerner have stuck three contracts for jackets in the first phase of the Johan Sverdrup development. Statoil and Dragados have worked together constructing jackets during the Mariner project.

As a part of the Johan Sverdurp development, the installation of process, drilling and riser platforms, as well as a utility and accommodation platform is planned for the first phase.
