TechnipFMC wins subsea contract for Shell’s Sparta project

USA
TechnipFMC has won a contract worth up to USD 500 million to provide EPCI for subsea production facilities at Shell’s ultra-deepwater Sparta field development in the Gulf of Mexico, the company announced Thursday.

TechnipFMC will supply subsea production systems, umbilicals, risers and flowlines. It will be the first integrated EPCI project to use high-pressure production systems rated up to 20,000 psi (1,379 bar). The value of the contract was not disclosed but the company indicated it to be between USD 250 million-500 million.

Jonathan Landes, president of TechnipFMC’s subsea division, said, “Sparta will combine our leading-edge subsea technology with our proven integrated execution model, providing improved project economics.”

Shell took the FID for Sparta, which it operates with 51% equity on behalf of sole partner Equinor, in December 2023. Located 272 kilometres off the Louisiana coast, the field is expected to produce 90,000 boepd once it comes on stream in 2028.
