Touchstone makes gas find in Trinidad

Touchstone Exploration has made a new gas discovery at the Ortoire block onshore Trinidad and Tobago, the company announced on Wednesday.

The Canadian player said the find of around 183 metres of “significant hydrocarbon accumulations” was made at its third exploration well in the block, Chinook-1. The well was drilled to a depth of 3,060 metres around 1.5 kilometres from the licence’s Cascadura discovery.

Touchstone CEO Paul Baay said the well “further confirms the geological model developed by our team and is expected to provide significant development opportunities in the Chinook area.”

Baay told The Energy Year earlier in 2020 that the block has been “transformational” for Touchstone.

Touchstone is a completely different company than it was a year ago as a result of Ortoire,” he said. “It is going to be natural gas-centric.”
