Trinidad and Suriname sign energy co-operation deal

Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname have signed an MoU aimed at energy co-operation, the countries announced at a signing ceremony on Thursday.

Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi met on with Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Keith Rowley in Port of Spain, Trinidad

According to Reuters, the deal could lead to natural gas being exported to Trinidad and Tobago via pipeline.

Trinidad and Tobago currently has the capacity to produce 119 mcm (4.2 bcf) of gas into LNG. However, the country currently produces only 76.5 mcm (2.7 bcf) of gas.

During the meet, Suriname announced an upcoming meeting with Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana to discuss strategic co-operation between the neighbouring nations.

The countries plan on building undersea pipelines to link Trinidad and Tobago to South American oilfields.
