Uganda to award exploration licenses

Uganda’s government is planning to sign three exploration deals next month, international media reported on Wednesday.

The recipients weren’t specified, though they are likely to be among the four companies selected as winners of the latest licensing round last August, WalterSmithPetroman Oil, Oranto Petroleum, Niger Delta Petroleum Resources and Armour Energy.

The companies have been in talks with the government over five PSAs in four different blocks.

Also on Wednesday, the country’s energy ministry announced that it had selected two possible partners for the building of Uganda’s planned 60,000-bpd refinery, a project that has seen numerous delays over the past few years.

“Two companies have been selected for negotiations,” Energy Minister Irene Muloni told Reuters, without naming the firms.

“The target is to complete the process this year, 2017.”
