Shell was awarded Block OFF-2 and Block OFF-7. The company has planned exploration programmes on both blocks involving 3D, gravimetric and magnetometric studies.
APA Corporation was awarded Block OFF-6. An initial exploratory well is planned within the first four years of the licence.
The three blocks are part of six up on offer in the country’s 2022 bid round.
High interest in the blocks come from recent discoveries in Namibia by Shell and TotalEnergies on the Orange Basin, which present similar geological aspects to Uruguay’s offshore plays.
