US to become net energy exporter

USA

HOUSTON, January 6, 2017 – The US is forecast to become a net energy exporter for the first time since 1953 within the coming decade, the US Energy Information Agency noted on Thursday.

A projected increase in gas exports, which first began in 2016, will put the US on track to becoming a net exporter, aided by an expected drop in petroleum products imports. “The U.S. could be completely, and the phrase that was used at one time, energy independent,” EIA Administrator Adam Sieminski said of the forecast. The changeover could be achieved by 2026, the EIA also said.
