Texas’ Freeport LNG facility remains offline

USA
The US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has held back the restart of the Freeport LNG facility following an explosion and fire, the pipeline regulator announced on Thursday.

An accident caused by a safety valve led to a pipeline burst on June 8, 2022, and saw the 15-million-tonne LNG facility shut down operations.

The incident leaked around 3,400 cubic metres (120,000 cubic feet) of LNG.

The operating company is to submit a plan to fix damages at the facility in 60 days and will be required to hire a third party to review its LNG storage tanks.

The facility is expected to restart operations October 2022 and proceed to full production by the end of the year.
