YPF, Petronas to jointly invest in Vaca Muerta

Argentinian NOC YPF has agreed to form a joint venture with Malaysia’s Petronas to invest in a Vaca Muerta shale project, the country’s Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Tuesday.

The two companies plan to invest USD 2.3 billion in the next four years and up to USD 7 billion over the next two decades at the Amarga Chica block in the Neuquén province.

“This investment will increase YPF’s oil production by 30% by 2022, which would represent a total increase for Argentina of 15%,” the statement said.
