About USD 72 million of that investment will go towards upgrading the facility’s crude distillation unit. The NOC also aims to boost production capacity by 10% and increase operational efficiency with a simultaneous modernisation of the refinery’s Topping III unit.
Gutiérrez said that the upgrade and modernisation programme would employ up to 1,600 workers and 50 companies from the Mendoza province at the project’s peak.
Constructed in 1940, the Luján de Cuyo refinery is a major driver of the Mendoza province’s economy. The 110,000-bpd facility is Argentina’s largest conversion refinery, supplying refined products to 14 provinces in Argentina.
