MUSCAT, November 8, 2024 – US engineering contractor KBR has been awarded a FEED contract for the expansion of the Qalhat LNG complex in Sur, Oman, the company announced on Thursday.
The contract calls for KBR to provide engineering services for the complex’s fourth LNG train, which will have a capacity of 3.8 million tons per year (tpy). The project will involve the addition or expansion of utilities, an LNG tank, the jetty and associated infrastructure.
Oman LNG currently operates three liquefaction trains at the Qalhat facility with a combined nameplate capacity of 10.4 million tpy.
“We are honoured to continue our collaboration with Oman on this critical project. By addressing the energy trilemma of security, sustainability and affordability, this project is expected to significantly contribute to Oman’s energy security and sustainability goals,” said Jay Ibrahim, president of sustainable technology solutions at KBR.
