Yinson, KNUST inaugurate Ghana’s first net-zero emissions lab
ACCRA, December 23, 2025 – Yinson Production Ghana has launched the country’s first net-zero carbon emissions laboratory in partnership with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the Petroleum Commission, the company said on Friday.
The lab, located at KNUST’s College of Engineering, is part of a five-year project to harmonise Ghana’s greenhouse gas emissions data and assess carbon intensity in the oil and gas sector. Yinson invested around USD 350,000 in the facility, which will support carbon capture, utilisation and storage, alongside emissions modelling and industry training.
The self-sustaining facility is aligned with Ghana’s Green Finance Taxonomy and regional carbon market frameworks. It features high-performance computing systems, research stations and energy-efficient infrastructure.
“The lab will play a critical role in enhancing national climate data and building long-term capacity for Ghana’s energy transition,” Yinson Production Ghana said.
Yinson Production Ghana is a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings, a global energy infrastructure and technology company. In Ghana, it operates the FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor for Eni on the Sankofa-Gye Nyame oilfield, providing offshore production services.
