Executive perspective: Barbara Bruce president of Hunt Oil Peru

Today, The Oil & Gas Year organised its first roundtable in Peru. Do you think these kinds of discussion can reveal the real state of affairs in Peru today and promote the opportunities in Peru’s oil and gas industry today?

I think this is a great opportunity because it gives us the opportunity to meet with the state representatives, people from the business and people from the financial and technological areas. There is a mix of opinions, which it is very good. It gives you a kind of a mélange of what is being said, what is heard and what is needed. The government learns first hand what it needs to do to aggressively promote opportunity and investment in this country.

As the head of Hunt Oil in Peru you obviously have a great understanding of what kind of potential is available for foreign investors in the country. Is Peru’s energy plan 2014-2025 suitable for foreign investors today?

Peru has a very attractive financial and tax regime. It needs to reinforce the social and environmental provisions but I think we are going in the right direction and Hunt has been here since 2000 with the Camisea project and we are very pleased that we have been accepted as a very reliable environmental and social company that works for Peruvians and likes to be in Peru.
