Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização joins the Angola Energy Leaders Summit as Emerald Sponsor
August 14, 2025The Energy Year is happy to announce that Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização has joined the Angola Energy Leaders Summit as an Emerald Sponsor.
A key subsidiary of Angola’s national oil company, Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização plays a strategic role by operating the largest downstream retail network in Angola, with around 400 fuel stations across the country. The company plays an important role in ensuring the reliable supply of fuel and lubricants to consumers.
With no shortage of big achievements, the company inaugurated the Barra do Dande Oceanic Terminal (TOBD) in February 2025. The project is Angola’s largest fuel storage hub, designed to centralise the nation’s distribution of gasoline, gas oil and LPG. The project is a landmark in the Angolan downstream sector, revolutionising the country’s fuel storage capabilities.
During the inauguration, Sonangol signed MoUs with seven major international trading companies, including Chevron, BP, Trafigura and Vitol, paving the way for contracts that could position TOBD as a regional distribution centre for fuels.
“Our vision is to make TOBD a hub that can also serve regional markets through partnerships with major trading companies,” Mauro Graça, CEO of Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização, told The Energy Year.
Looking ahead, upcoming development phases will include the addition of marine gas oil and even LNG storage. This strategic asset will expand fuel storage and distribution capacity, improve logistics and reinforce Angola’s position as a regional energy hub.
The innovation also extends all the way to the pump, as Sonangol Distribuição e Comercialização is working on developing its service model from traditional fuel stations to multi-service hubs, including convenience stores, restaurants, pharmacies and banking services.
The first five fully renewed stations in Luanda are being inaugurated in 2025, serving as prototypes for the company’s future retail network. Innovation and new technology advancements are a priority for Sonangol as they expand their services to cater to new consumers across all provinces.
The Angola Energy Leaders’Summit
Taking place on December 2 in Luanda, with the support of the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency, the summit will bring together Angola’s most senior energy executives and international investors.
This year’s edition holds special significance as Angola marks 50 years of independence, a milestone that invites reflection on the energy sector’s central role in national development and its potential to drive diversification, innovation and sustainable growth in the decades ahead.
By joining as an Emerald Sponsor, and ahead of Sonangol’s 50 years anniversary, the company underscores its commitment not only to Angola’s domestic energy security but also to regional integration and the modernisation of Africa’s downstream sector.
