Al Kout Industrial Projects (AIP) is a manufacturer of chlorine, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, and other oilfield chemical products. It has been listed on Boursa Kuwait since 2002, trading under the ticker ALKOUT.

The company has two operating locations, in Kuwait and the UAE. The Kuwait plant is located in Shuaiba and has a production capacity of about 125 tonnes per day, achieved through a series of upgrades. The UAE operation stems from a 2011 acquisition and can produce 40 tonnes per day. AIP has access to a total area of around 100,000 square metres for storage and handling. For transportation, AIP has a fleet of more than 60 trucks.

Main products manufactured:

  • Chlorine
  • Sodium hypochlorite
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Caustic soda
  • Lye
  • Common salt, both food-grade and industrial
  • Compressed hydrogen gas

The company supplies ferric chloride, which is used in wastewater treatment but is not produced locally and must be imported, mainly from China. AIP has storage facilities from which it supplies this chemical to the local market, whose demand reaches up to 15,000 tonnes per year.

AIP serves a range of customers in the oil and gas industries, including drilling companies, refineries and petrochemicals manufacturers, but also power and water treatment plants. A key client is Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy, to which AIP supplies chlorine for Kuwait’s potable water system. Others are KNPC and KIPIC, which buy caustic solutions for downstream applications.

Kuwait represents about 60% of AIP’s business, with international sales accounting for the remainder. The oil sector represents around 25% of gross profit.
