Operatec

Operatec is a multidisciplinary Angolan company that provides manpower and subsea services for offshore oil and gas activities. The company has expertise in drilling management; engineering; HSE and dispatch personnel services; oilfield inspection, repair and maintenance; commercial diving services; underwater vessel services; and material supplies.

Operatec has strategic partnerships with international companies for the acquisition of know-how and technology, including hydrogen sulfide safety and rescue services. The company’s core competency in this area concerns high-angle rescue, confined spaces, safety watches and supply of breathing air systems.

History: Established in 1996 as a vehicle maintenance provider for the American embassy in Luanda, Operatec has since diversified and expanded its portfolio, and now aims to become a full-fledged subsea EPC company.

Assets: Operatec developed the Operatec Maritime Industrial Training Centre (OMITC) in Cabinda. OMITC offers offshore industrial and maritime safety training and is the only OPITO-recognised training centre in Angola. The goal of the facility is to service operators and services companies and reduce their costs by training staff locally. Operatec also has a training centre in Luanda, and will open one by the end of 2024 in Namibia.

Main clients: Chevron, ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, BP and SLB.

Strategy: Operatec is determined to continue developing its training centres in Cabinda, Luanda and Namibia, and to continue investing in assets, people and technology. Its strategy is to become a subsea EPC company serving the broader African energy industry thanks to high standards and excellent performance. Operatec is also committed to developing its safety segment further and expanding its main services and hydrogen sulfide safety and rescue operations regionally, with a focus on greenfield projects.
