Petromar

Petromar is one of the leading Angolan companies in the construction and fabrication sector servicing both upstream and downstream operations in the country. The company was established in 1984 as a joint venture between Angolan NOC Sonangol EP and French services provider Bouygues Offshore. In 2002, Italian EPC player Saipem acquired Bouygues Offshore and with it the company’s Angolan assets including the Ambriz fabrication yard. Currently, Petromar’s shares are divided 70%-30% between Saipem and Sonangol.

The scope at Ambriz: The Ambriz fabrication yard is one of the largest in the country, together with Sonamet and Paenal. It produces many types of structures for the development of offshore fields such as platforms, jackets, topsides, decks, piles and subsea structures such as pipes and jumpers.
Well equipped: The yard is equipped with various sorts of cranes and has areas dedicated to pipe fabrication, heavy welding, sand blasting and painting as well as assembly and erection areas and a maintenance shop and warehouses.

The company’s specialists have the capacity to maintain all types of equipment, including rotating machinery, turbines, compressors, vessels, piping, distributed control systems and instruments, electrical equipment etc. The company also operates a 700-square-metre fabrication workshop in Molongo for the construction of jackets and decks. In addition, the company operates a workshop and fabrication yard in Soyo for deepwater facilities.

One of Petromar´s key strategies for sustainable economic development is the adaptation of the Ambriz yard into a commercial port for the Bengo province. The move aims to provide customers with an alternative base to use for vessel maintenance or storage and to offer its accommodation base for organising their crew changes. The yard is already certified by the ISPS and an expansion plan has been launched to offer more space for the storage of materials, containers and goods vessels can offload with cranes.
