Abu Dhabi launches waste-to-energy tender

ABU DHABI, January 25, 2021 – Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) and Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) have launched a tender for a greenfield waste-to-energy IPP, EWEC announced on Sunday.

The plant will process between 600,000 and 900,000 tonnes of waste per year and will be located near Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra landfill.

EWEC and Tadweer will participate in the project as the power offtaker and waste supplier.

State firm EWEC, a joint venture between renewables giant Masdar and environmental management firm Bee’ah, is responsible for the purchase and supply of electricity and water in Abu Dhabi. Tadweer is responsible for waste management activities in the emirate.
