ADNOC signs largest clean energy deal

ABU DHABI, October 27, 2021 – Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed an agreement with Emirates Water and Electricity Company that will see 100% of its grid power come from nuclear and solar energy, the UAE’s state-owned oil company announced today.

Under the agreement, Emirates Water and Electricity Company will supply all ADNOC’s electricity demand beginning in January 2022.

This falls under ADNOC’s drive to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 and the UAE’s initiative to have net zero emissions by 2050.

The deal is the largest of its kind in the hydrocarbons industry.

Cost of the agreement and amount of power that will be required were not disclosed.
