AI review prompts Botswana Diamonds to pivot to copper

GABORONE, February 25, 2026 – Botswana Diamonds has changed its name to Botswana Minerals plc as it pivots towards copper exploration following an AI-driven review of its assets in Botswana, the company said on Wednesday.
The AIM- and Botswana Stock Exchange-listed explorer will begin trading under the ticker BMIN on Thursday after Companies House approved the name change on Tuesday.
The strategic shift follows the application of an advanced AI model to its 95,000-square-kilometre geological database, including 375,000 line kilometres of geophysics, which identified eleven copper target areas and resulted in the granting of eight new copper licences.
The AI analysis, initially focused on diamonds, also highlighted additional highly prospective diamond areas and defined multiple drilling targets across new licences. A two-stage work programme is planned to prioritise drill targets across the copper portfolio amid reported third-party interest.
“Botswana is a top location for exploration – geologically, politically and economically,” Botswana Minerals chairman John Teeling said.
“By applying AI analysis to our vast 95,000 sq km Botswana geological database, our team identified strong copper prospectivity a metal with a very robust future.”
Botswana Minerals is a multi-commodity explorer focused on Botswana, where it holds prime exploration acreage including the KX36 diamond discovery and the second-largest exploration database in the country, which has been analysed using advanced AI tools to generate copper, polymetallic and diamond targets.
