Aker enters Mexico with Lakach contract

Norwegian oil services company Aker Solutions announced on Wednesday that is has secured its first Mexican contract from Italian oil and gas contractor Saipem to provide umbilicals for the Pemex-operated Lakach deepwater gasfield.

Under this deal, Aker will provide electro-hydraulic steel umbilical tubes measuring nearly 73 kilometres that will connect the country’s first subsea development to an onshore gas conditioning plant and other facilities. These tubes will be made in Mobile, Alabama by the third quarter of 2016. The value of the contract has yet to be disclosed by the company.

In 2014, Saipem was awarded the $750-million contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of linking the subsea development to onshore facilities.

The Lakach field is in the Gulf of Mexico located almost 100 kilometres southeast of Veracruz in water that is between 900-1200 metres in deep. The field is state-owned company Pemex’s first deepwater subsea development, which is expected to produce 11.3 mcm (400 mcf) per day.
